a•mong•ster | a person or subject as a part of, instead of seperate from his environment, one with its environment

Soms zoek je naar woorden om te duiden, terwijl je net best je ogen sluit om te luisteren. Amongster neemt ons mee in zijn spannende zoektocht zonder voorafgaande bestemming. In de pers werd de sound al eens geschetst als ‘ergens tussen rasp en haardvuur’. Ook op het debuutalbum zullen de songs niet in de gebruikelijke muziekhokjes te plaatsen zijn, maar zich veelal bevinden langs de rafelranden van de indie en electronica. Verwacht intieme popliedjes gecombineerd met warme electronica en dansbare melancholie waarin de tegendraadse ritmiek en de melodie de boventoon voeren. Laat je vooral ook meevoeren door de dromerige zanglijnen, gedragen door het doorleefde stemgeluid van de frontman. Teacher is de eerste single van het debuutalbum, dat op 9 september zal verschijnen en bijgezet kan worden in de rijke muziekcatalogus van Gent.

Thomas Oosterlynck, de man die schuilgaat achter Amongster, schrijft zijn songs in kluizenaarschap, veilig opgeborgen zonder ooit het daglicht te zien. De schrijfsels die een publiek ambiëren deelt hij met een muzikale zielsverwant en collega-songsmid, Jasper Maekelberg. Zijn rol en functie zijn breed; naast producer, componist en gitarist is Jasper een vriend en onmisbare schakel in het ontwikkelingsproces van ruwe demo’s tot volwassen composities. Op deze manier is er de afgelopen maanden gewerkt aan het debuutalbum, dat deze zomer ook op het podium te zien zal zijn. Live wordt Amongster aangevuld met Tom Soetaert (toetsen) en Robbe Vekeman (drums). Een viermansformatie dus, waarbij het kwartet niet schuwt om de liedjes een extra dimensie te geven in dynamiek en experiment.

Amongster komt niet geheel uit het niets; in 2014 werd de band gekozen als een van de winnaars van De Nieuwe Lichting waardoor ze reeds speelden op Pukkelpop. In 2015 volgde een EP waarvan de tracks ‘Bright Life’, ‘Leo’ en ‘Salrow’ de playlisten van StuBru en Radio1 bereikten. Daarnaast speelde hij op diverse festivals en deelde hij podia met onder andere Perfume Genius, Blaudzun en Editors.

The IRON mastering compressor is not a copy of a classic unit, but rather an original concept in itself. Our goal was to conceive a compressor that provided a pleasant, melodic-sounding, transparent compression, inspired on the vintage compressors of the radio era. And we wanted it to be versatile enough to adapt perfectly to the needs of modern mastering studios.

Thus, the IRON combines not only the sonic virtues of legendary vintage tube compressors with the advantages of the High Dynamic 120 V operating voltage in a single unit. It also sets a new benchmark in terms of tube compressor technology, with the innovative implementation of a parallel dual-tube circuit.

The IRON mastering compressor is not a copy of a classic unit, but rather an original concept in itself. Our goal was to conceive a compressor that provided a pleasant, melodic-sounding, transparent compression, inspired on the vintage compressors of the radio era. And we wanted it to be versatile enough to adapt perfectly to the needs of modern mastering studios.

Something’s stirring underneath the industrial fumes of Rotterdam. Amidst the rancid rats, malodorant traffic and greasy trays of manufactured meat, vast masses of unobtained, raw energy flows about freely. From the emptiness which arose from the omnipresence of materialism and technology, something new can manifest in it’s wake. Turning their backs to the metropole’s mass-identity and urban-individual, the unavoidable birth of Dool has taken place.

Dool wanders through dim streets, out of the city - into the wild. Carried by infinite, sometimes hypnotizing guitar parts, singer Ryanne van Dorst takes the listener from dark caves, inhabited by ancient ghosts (“Oweynagat”), to the deep abysses of a broken heart (“Death of Love”). At times sensual and teasing, like a child molester holding a bag of candy on a playground (“Words on Paper”), at other times imposing and ominous, in the sinister, 10 minute-long epic “Vantablack”.

The band, consisting of Micha Haring (The Devil’s Blood, The Hands) on drums, Job van de Zande (The Devil’s Blood, Malkovich) on bass, Reinier Vermeulen (The New Media, Liar of Golgotha) on guitar and Nick Polak (Gold) on guitar, are aggressive as well as dynamic, alternating shreds of dark rock, gothic pop, as well as bits of psychedelic metal in an ever surprising manner. Audibly influenced by bands such as Sisters of Mercy and Sonic Youth, Dool bends their musical nurture to their own creation, searching for a true identity.

DALLIANCE is a bandproject of frontwoman Sophie Driebeek. An atmosphere that is translated in her intriguing live performance and the music of the band.

Melodramatic Indie with striking melodic leaps and dissonances in the vocals. Sophie’s airy and warm sound colours pleasantly within the bands arrangements. Electronic drum pads, present electric guitars with lots of reverb and dreamy keyboards on a driving rhythm section with a highly repetitive character within the songs.

As a musician and bass player, my greatest desire is to connect and communicate. In my opinion the best way to do this, is to play a good song. So, I’ve always been slightly envious of piano and guitar players. When a vocalist and instrumentalist perform a song together, there is an intimate connection. And this is something I’ve always wanted. But it has not been enough to make me abandon my main instrument: the bass guitar.

I love the bass in all her might. She is a dirty machine that can rumble, roar, grind, roll, slide and scream. As part of a band, she is the only instrument that has such a major rhythmic and harmonic influence. Being at the bottom puts you in the driver’s seat. This is powerful stuff!

Fortheloveofbass is an answer to all the above. It is the connection between vocalist and instrumentalist. It is the glorification of the low end. But most of all, it is about the challenge of making a good song work with just a bass guitar and an emphasis on the song.

Bio: Jack and the Weatherman is an acoustic duo from Haarlem in the Netherlands. This two-man-band plays guitar, ukulele, harmonica, foot tambourine, a homemade kick drum, and sings with mouth, hands and feet! With this unique formation, lots of energy and smooth harmonies they play beautiful pop/folk songs in a storytelling kind of way, as if they’re a full on band. On Spotify the boys have a staggering 6.000.000 streams and are now slowly touring through Europe.

Their single ‘Free (2014)’ made them 3FM Serious Talent ( on of the biggest dtuch radiostations ).The new single ‘Being me (2015)’ can often be heard on ‘De Staat van Stasse’ on Radio 2. The boys played many festivals in the Netherlands like Kadepop, Uitmarkt, MadNes and Surfana. And support shows for Xavier Rudd, Raul Midon and Sticky Fingers in venues like Melkweg, Paradiso and Patronaat. In December the boys could often been seen during Serious Request in Haarlem. They played at the 3FM Serious Talent Festival and they were guests in ‘Glazen huis (2014)’.

On the 18th of April 2015 they released their second EP ‘Homewards’ in a sold out Patronaat in Haarlem. This EP was recorded by Jasper Zuidervaart and mastered in Wisseloord and was inspired by the many changes the boys have been through since leaving their hometown. Letting go, saying goodbye, living and adapting all play a big roll on this new EP. By just using singing, guitars, ukulele and additional percussion instruments like an accordion case, homemade shakers, a tambourine or even a bin the songs got a very intimate sound.

They boys promoted the EP Homewards in a very original way, they did it on a bicycle!

Packed with instruments they cycled a solid 350 kilometers from their hometown Emmen al the way to Haarlem which is the city where they live now. Along the way they played at several radio stations and did living room concerts in different cities so they had a place to sleep. This tour was documented and released as a video clip for ‘This Town’ which is about Haarlem.
